How did the pioneers travel the Oregon, California, and Mormon trails 150 years ago? Most of them actually walked, and they used handcarts and wagons to haul personal belongings and much-needed supplies for the hazardous 2,000-mile journey through the wilderness. Join us as we explore the many ways pioneers travelled through the Casper area.  Check out wagons and handcarts, the Mormon Ferry and Guinard’s 1859 bridge, and see if you have what it takes to make it to Oregon, Utah, or California.

On hand will be representatives from the Mormon Handcart Historic Site at Martin's Cove.  They are bringing handcarts to allow participants to experience pushing a handcart like the ones pioneers used over 150 years ago. We will also be discussing the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies and the tragedies they endured 151 years ago when they embarked on the trail too late in the season. They encountered bad weather and harsh conditions as they travelled through this area in September of 1856.
